Featured in the Des Moines Register

The Des Moines Register recently discussed "The Suffragist," our musical about Alice Paul, Carrie Chapman Catt, and other inspirational leaders who pushed for the passage of the 19th Amendment.

"The Suffragist" is just one of many events planned across the state of Iowa in 2019 and 2020 in commemoration of the passage and ratification of the Constitutional amendment that gave women the right to vote.

In the article, composer Nancy Hill Cobb gives great insight into what drove her desire to bring this true story, too often overlooked by the general public, into the limelight.

"Inspiration struck Cobb in 2015, when a colleague told her about her research into the suffragettes. “She sat there and started telling me all these stories, and I realized they were stories I didn’t know, which made me kind of mad,” Cobb said. “Here I was, a woman who benefited from the right to vote, and that part of our history has been — well, I won’t say suppressed, but people don’t pay attention to it.”
